Possible Chalk outlier at Hockcliffe

15:40 Aug 18 2015 Hockcliffe Church End

Description
Chalk exposed in an archaeological dig. The geology map has glacial sand over till over Gault Clay, the chalk scarp is some distance to the south. Lots of flints in it, so Middle to Upper Chalk, not Lower Chalk. A large area has been uncovered and we have augered outwards and found chalk beneath a thin rendzina, no sign of sand or till. The exposure is to be re-covered in about a week unless someone wants to view it and we can request a delay.
